UNDERSTANDING GALATIANS 5

          In this teaching, we are going to look at Galatians 5.

KJV Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ
hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of
bondage.

         Bondage = Corruption

KJV 2 Peter 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are
the servants of CORRUPTION: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same
is he brought in BONDAGE.

         Sin = Bondage = Corruption

        Sin = Transgressing the law

KJV 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law:
for sin is the transgression of the law.

        Messiah has made us free from the yoke of sin.

KJV Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath
made me free from the law of sin and death.

        Sin = Activates the law of sin and death

KJV Romans 6:23 For the WAGES of SIN is DEATH; but the gift of God is
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

        Messiah has made us free from living a sinful lifestyle.

        Sin = Yoke of bondage

KJV Galatians 5:2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised,
Christ shall profit you nothing.

        In a previous study, we examined the VARIED uses and meanings
of the word, "Circumcised".

       For example: (Circumcism = Jews)

KJV Galatians 2:8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the
apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the
Gentiles:)

     Circumcision = Covenant relationship with YHVH

     Uncircumcision = No covenant with YHVH

KJV Genesis 17:11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin;
and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

     Circumcision = Token (sign) of being a member of the Abrahamic covenant

KJV Ephesians 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past
Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is
called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

KJV Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being
aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the
covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

      Uncircumcision = Without Messiah in the world = No covenant

KJV Joshua 5:2 At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp
knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

KJV Joshua 5:3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the
children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

KJV Joshua 5:4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All
the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men
of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of
Egypt.

            No circumcision = In the wilderness

            In the wilderness = Outside the land of Israel = Exile

KJV Ezekiel 20:35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the
people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

KJV Ezekiel 20:36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the
wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the
Lord GOD.

KJV Ezekiel 20:38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and
them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the
country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of
Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

      KEEPING THE COMMANMENTS OF YHVH

KJV 1 Corinthians 7:18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him
not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not
be circumcised.

KJV 1 Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is
nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

      Paul instructed that whether we are Jewish (circumcision) or a
non-Jew (uncircumcision), we are to KEEP the commandments of YHVH.

       Circumcision can be used as a "code word" for following Torah.

KJV Acts 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees
which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to
command them to keep the law of Moses.

     Circumcise = Keep the Torah

       Previously in Galatians, Paul talked about being "under the
law" which was explained in a previous article as referring to
following the "Oral Law / man-made traditions which are contrary to
the written Torah".

       The phrase, "if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing"

       is in the CONTEXT of speaking to those "under the law"
(trusting in their own righteousness by following the Oral Law and
various man-made traditions) rather than trusting in Messiah.

      If you be circumcised = Under the law = following the Oral law
/ man-made traditions of men then Messiah will profit you nothing.

KJV Galatians 5:3 For I testify again to every man
that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

     Paul is using circumcision as a code word for following Torah
(in the context of speaking to those who were following the Oral Law
/ man-made traditions = Under the law) without having faith in Messiah.

    Under the law = Debtor to the law = Cursed

KJV Deuteronomy 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words
of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

KJV Galatians 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever
of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

     Justified by the law (TRUSTING in following the Torah to
establish your righteousness) = Fallen from the grace of YHVH

     Under the law = Debtor to the law = Cursed = Fallen from grace

     GRACE is GIVEN to those that LOVE YHVH and MESSIAH and KEEP
His commandments.

KJV Exodus 20:6 And shewing MERCY unto thousands of them that love me,
and keep my commandments.

KJV John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

KJV Psalm 103:17 But the MERCY of the LORD is from everlasting to
everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto
children's children;

KJV Psalm 103:18 To such as KEEP his covenant, and to those that
remember his COMMANDMENTS to do them.

       In Messiah, GRACE / MERCY is granted to those that KEEP His
commandments.

KJV Galatians 5:5 For we through the Spirit wait for
the hope of righteousness by faith.

Righteousness by faith = Believing in Yeshua as Messiah = Forgiven of our sin

KJV Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of
Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no
difference:

KJV Galatians 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither
circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which
worketh by love.

      Those who walk by faith = Have faith in Messiah and keep His commandments

KJV Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from
faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

       Righteous = Live by faith

KJV Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for
ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the
weightier MATTERS of the LAW, judgment, mercy, and FAITH ...

     Faith = Weightier matter of the Torah

KJV Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he
eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

    Not faith = Sin

   Sin = Transgression of the law (I John 3:4)

KJV 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law:
for sin is the transgression of the law.

  Not faith = Not following Torah

KJV Psalm 119:53 Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked
that forsake thy law.

  Wicked =  Forsake the Torah

KJV Galatians 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should
not obey the truth?

   Not obey the Truth = Not following Torah

KJV Psalm 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
and thy law is the truth.

KJV Malachi 2:1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.

KJV Malachi 2:6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was
not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did
turn many away from iniquity.

       Truth = Following Torah

KJV Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in
this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

KJV Galatians 5:15 But if ye bite and
devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

      Following Torah = Loving your neighbor as yourself

KJV Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against
the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself: I am the LORD.

KJV Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil
the
lust of the flesh.

       Sin = Lust of the flesh

       Sin = Not following Torah = Lust of the flesh

KJV Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and
the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the
other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

KJV Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

            Led of the Spirit = Following Torah

KJV Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit
will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of
your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

KJV Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you
to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

        My Spirit within you = Keep my statutes and judgments

KJV Romans 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

       Walk in the Spirit = Delight in the law of God

       Under the law = Follow Oral law / man-made traditions = Not led by the
Spirit

KJV Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the
flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness,

KJV Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

KJV Galatians 5:21 Envyings,
murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell
you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do
such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

     Notice that it does NOT say that the works of the flesh is
following the Torah.

    SIN = Works of the flesh

   Sin = NOT obeying Torah

KJV 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law:
for sin is the transgression of the law.

KJV Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of
the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith,

KJV Galatians 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

         YHVH has the fruit of the Spirit.

KJV Exodus 34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The
LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant
in goodness and truth,

       YHVH keeps the Torah

KJV Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the
affections
and lusts.

       In Messiah = Crucify the flesh

       Sin = Walking in the flesh

       Sin = Transgressing the Torah (I John 3:4)

KJV Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the
Spirit.

       Walk in the Spirit = Follower of Torah

KJV Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am
carnal, sold under sin.

KJV Romans 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

       CONCLUSION:

      Those who DON'T know Torah TWIST the teachings of Paul (that he
spoke AGAINST following the Torah) to their own destruction (if they
are believers in the Messiah, they are LEAST in the Kingdom ...
Matthew 5:19).

KJV 2 Peter 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is
salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the
wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

KJV 2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his EPISTLES (Galatians), speaking in them of
these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which
they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other
scriptures, unto their own destruction.

         Traditional Christianity have quoted Galatians as their
"evidence" that Paul taught against following the Torah. They have
done this through embracing their own man-made doctrines and
traditions (dispensationalism ... which nails the Torah to the tree)
because they are UNLEARNED in Torah and TWIST the teachings of Paul.

      Paul taught that AFTER we are saved by grace through faith, we
FOLLOW the Torah.

KJV Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God
forbid: yea, we establish the law.

       I pray that these study series in understanding Galatians is a
blessing to your studies.

      May YHVH continue to bless you in your studies,
